PROJECT CONTEXT
ElevateU is the wellness initiative at Ferris State University. Since October is national mental health month, ElevateU wanted to host an event that challanges the stigma surrounding mental health. My partner and I had just over a month to plan, organize, design, and produce the event.
THE ACTIVITY
Students were given stickers to put on their cup wraps. Each sticker represented a different mental illness commonly found among college students. Students were then able to see other people who were struggling with similar things as themselves.
THE SYMBOLS
It took rounds of iterations to land on a style that matched the theme of the event. After getting feedback from the client and Ferris Personal Counceling Center, I created symbols that focused on the head and showed positive emotions.
ADVERTISING STRATEGY
With a tight budget for the event, we decided to exclusively use digital channels for advertising. We utilized ElevateU’s Instagram, indoor digital displays around campus, and the University Center’s outdoor display.
Instagram
I designed four different posts to be made the week leading up to the event and on the day of.
MONDAY
WEDNESDAY
FRIDAY
DAY OF
INDOOR DISPLAYS
The ads on the indoor displays needed to be quick and easy for viewers to digest. Animations aren’t utilized very often on these displays, so I knew that would be a great way to catch attention.
UNIVERSITY CENTER OUTDOOR DISPLAY
This display is in a heavy traffic area and can be seen all the way across the quad, so it was important for it to grab students’ attention.
